Catalyst Conference application now available!

Applications are now available for the Catalyst Conference @ UNC Chapel Hill!
Every year, the Catalyst Conference brings a selected group of 100 high school students from across North Carolina to UNC Chapel Hill for a weekend-long exploration of social justice issues affecting both America and the larger world. Through leadership and personal development sessions, we aim to empower participants so they can serve as catalysts for positive change in their own communities. The Catalyst Conference serves a vital need, as encouraging today’s youth to take an interest in national and worldly issues is vital to securing an educated and passionate group of future leaders. These 100 students will face a challenging task; they will be asked to view the world through the eyes of another and come to a realization of the underlying similarities that connect us all.

Catalyst Conference 2014 seeks to:
Give high school students the opportunity to build and learn from personal relationships that transcend racial, ethnic, religious, and gender boundaries.
Provide an open forum for discussion of community issues of social justice and equality through a series of workshops to educate students about diversity and social issues.
Empower students to combat the apathy and ignorance threatening the future of America’s youth through personal development sessions and leadership training.
Create a network of peer support between high school students and college Catalyst Conference counselors.
Transform our high school students into catalysts for positive social change and generate a vision of social harmony for the 21st century and beyond.
Application found here.

Future Prep SAT Test Prep Classes

We are still accepting enrollments for our SAT Review/College Prep Class at Mooresville High School preparing for the October 11th SAT Administrations. I have provided the schedule below.

This course will benefit rising Seniors who either still need to take the SAT, or who need to improve their existing scores. Most Colleges and Universities start Rolling Admissions in October. Taking the October SAT will allow students to have test results in hand by the end of October, giving them enough time to meet the Admissions Deadlines for their target schools.

This course will also benefit rising Juniors who have already completed Geometry and Algebra II. It is recommended that students take the SAT multiple times. Taking the SAT in the Fall of their Junior year will allow students to get a head start on the competition. Due to an overlap in content, the course will also help them get ready for the PSAT. Qualification for National Merit Scholarship consideration is based largely on a student’s performance on the PSAT administered in October of their Junior year.

The course provides in-depth content review while also coaching them on important aspects of the admissions process. We typically see improvements in the 100-200 point range.

Our course is competitively priced at only $199! (Similar courses will cost $300 and up). If you have any students who you feel could benefit from these classes, please pass this information on to them. If you would like to discuss partnering with Future Prep to provide classes at your location for the convenience of your students, please reach out to me at anytime.

This class helps to prepare students for the October 11th SAT Administration. Please forward on or post to your school/district website as you see fit. I will provide a flier with course schedules upon request.

Summer School 2014

Summer School Sign Up!  If you need to attend summer school please visit http://tinyurl.com/moqewyb and complete the registration form.  Students can only take ONE course in summer school.  Due to promotion requirements, English courses are first priority.  However, courses in Math, History and Science will be offered.
Summer School dates are June 16-June 27.  Students must attend each day beginning at 7:30am and ending at 2:15pm.
Bus transportation is provided.
ATTENDANCE & TARDIES - Attendance during Summer School 2014 is very important. One day of
summer is school is equal to approximately one week of regular school. Parents are asked not to make summer
vacation plans which conflict with summer school dates. -Students who are absent more than ONE (1) day,
EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED, will be withdrawn from summer school. -Three tardies or three early dismissals
will be counted as one absence, regardless of the amount of time involved. -30 minutes tardy will equal one
absence. -There can be NO EXCEPTIONS to the attendance requirement.
MAKE-UP WORK - Make-up work applies ONLY to EXCUSED absences. There is no opportunity to make
up work beyond one day, because if a student misses more than one day, excused or unexcused, he/she will be
withdrawn. -In order to be able to make up work, students must bring a valid note signed by a parent or
guardian stating the reason for absence.
EXAMS - Students will not be allowed to take exams early or to make up exams after the exam period. Exams
are given on the last two days of the course.
DISCIPLINE - Summer School 2014 is a privilege, not a requirement. There is much to be done in a
compressed time frame and, therefore, little time for behavior problems. -Students referred to the summer
administrator for violations of discipline may be withdrawn from summer school on the first referral. -Copies of
the Summer School 2014 Discipline Regulations will be distributed on the first day of the summer session to be
signed by both the student and a parent or guardian and returned to the school.
COST - Summer School is offered free of charge to Mooresville High School students.
TRANSPORTATION - Bus transportation will be provided upon request Please indicate whether or not you
