COMMUNITY NEWSNCSSM SUMMER OFFERINGS!This year, for the first time open to the general public, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) has something exciting to offer high-achieving students entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in the Fall of 2014. The summer program is called the “Accelerator” and has an offering of nine residential courses with online components. Accelerator is a transformative summer experience aimed at research and practical, hands-on education in a particular STEM-related field.Applications opened February 13th, 2014 and are due by March 15th for notification of acceptance by April 4th.Students will learn rocketry and then build and launch their own rocket. Others will uncover the stories told by real human bones as they learn archeological methods and get a glimpse of ancient history and death in the modern era. Mud River students will get knee deep in the river to study the effects of urbanization on water and assess the possibility of recovery.
