College Application Week 2015!

MondayEarly Bird Drop-in
HEbrews CoffeeHouse: 7:30am - 12pm
Mooresville Public Library: 12:00pm -6pm

What's happening: 
Seniors and parents can come by either location at the indicated times to receive assistance applying to college, finding/applying for scholarships, or working on essays/resumes. 
Seniors who have already done most of the college process can come by the day and have the added bonus of picking up their Senior Ticket early and have Ms. Miller check off completed tasks so they will have less to do during the week and stay in classSo please encourage seniors to come to HEbrews/MPL on Monday so they don't miss much class. :)


Tuesday & Thursday: Senior Days
MHS Media Center, 7:00am-2:30pm

What's happening: Seniors will...
1) Sign-in and at the end of each block, we will email a list of participating senior names for that block to all teachers for your reference.
2) Go to at least one station and have their ticket, signed/stamped by a counselor in order to win prizes. The Stations are as follow:
  • Applications: Complete College Applications
  • Scholarships/FSA ID: Search & Apply for Scholarships, Create FSA ID 
  • Naviance: Send Transcripts, Update Naviance Account
  • SAT/ACT: Send Scores, Print Fee Waivers, Register for SAT/ACT
  • Thank You Notes: Show Gratitude to Teachers, Family, etc
  • Senior Survey: Brief check-in with every senior
  • Independent Work Space: Work on Essays & Resumes
  • Express Lane: Get Tickets checked off by counselor
  • Stumped Spot: For students who don't know what to do
3) "Check-out": Hand in their ticket and receive a specialized pass back to class and take an "I applied to" picture or fill out a "devil head" for the college wall

Incentives: 
Donuts/Juice 1st & 2nd block
Chickfila Nuggets & Lemonade 3rd & 4th block
Drawings for $400 worth of different gift cards & items based on ticket completion: Starbucks, Chickfila, Chipotle, Itunes, Target, $50 Visa card, college t-shirts & pennants, etc.
Our goal is for 90% Senior Participation, but 80% will earn them their Senior Privilege.

**Note: Even if a student does not plan to apply to college, have them stop by to Sign-in, Write a Thank You Note and Complete the Senior Survey. It'll take 15 minutes tops and will let us know their plan & enter them for prizes.


Wednesday: Underclassmen Day
HBCU Fair, 1st & 2nd block
MHS Main Campus Cafeteria, 8am - 10am

What's happening: RSVPed Students (we will send a list) will be called down at the designated times to talk to admissions officer and alumni from 10 different HBCU's. Seniors may also participate in on-site admission.
Juniors & Sophomores: 8am-8:30am
Freshmen: 8:30am - 9am
Seniors: 9am-10am

SAT/ACT Registration Drive
Cafeteria @ Both Campuses, 3rd Block
MHS Media Center SD Room, 4th Block & After School until 3:30pm

What's happening: Juniors (and precocious sophomores) are invited to register for the SAT/ACT and eligible students will receive available fee waivers. The deadlines for the December SAT & ACT are Thursday and Friday of next week, respectively.

JUNIOR ENGLISH/ MATH TEACHERS: This event will kick-off the Junior SAT/ACT Registration Drive for the fall semester. The English class and the Math class which turns in the highest percentage of SAT/ACT registration tickets to Ms. Miller by December 14th will win a pizza party sponsored by the College Advising Office (aka Ms. Miller).




Friday: Teacher Appreciation/Student Celebration
Ms. Miller @ Woods
Dunbar Room, 1st & 2nd Block
Ms. Miller will be available to speak to seniors at the Woods campus who may have missed or not had enough time at College Application Week and sign off & collect on any final tickets to be entered for prizes announced that afternoon. She may call down specific students who have yet to set foot in her office or CAW.

Distribution of Student Thank You Cards & Teacher Prizes3rd Block

Announce Winners/Senior Privilege4th Block
Winners and whether or not seniors have earned their senior privilege will be announced over the afternoon announcements. Seniors may pick up their prizes in guidance after school.

All Senior Tickets are due to Ms. Miller by 10:30 on Friday.
